I think you should judge Denemethy on his 2nd in a bumper two runs back rather than when weakening quickly on hurdles debut at Chepstow last time. He's had a wind-op since and We are expecting a much better showing now.

We would have preferred the ground not to have gone soft again for Ardmayle. He's been a grand servant over the years and the smaller field - three non-runners - will help. We need to run as we're running out of opportunities for him, so we'll see how we go.

Wolf Prince is still finding his feet having run disappointingly twice following a near 18-month absence. This is trappy enough but it needs a big improvement for him to figure.

Point winner Ryan's Rocket has to be our number one. He ran close to 130-rated Fiercely Proud in only his 2nd start over hurdles here in December. He has missed the bad ground and this looks an excellent opportunity.

Samuel Spade remains in very good order at home. The better ground and ease in class are both positives. Good chance.

This trip is a bit sharp for Hurricane Harvey. He is in good form though and needs to run. Each-way chances.

Two For Gold won this race last year. He has been struggling on very soft ground this season and will be happier on this surface. The addition of a tongue-tie could help. Place chances

Sageburg County won well at Southwell in November but disappointed soon after. Given a two-month break, we freshened him up for a four-horse race back at Southwell last month and he was beaten 15 lengths as 6/4 favourite. On his best form, he would have a shout.

Walk My Way may be moderate but a mark of 68 and with Emma taking another 3lb off doesn't require her to be over-talented. The trip of 2m4f in this ground should be ideal and we think there will be more to come from this mare when she switches to fences later on.

When Brickadank won here last time that was his first success after 37 runs. For the past year he has been under sentence of retirement, just putting in the odd decent run to stave off the axe. He does jump fences well and remains at the right end of the handicap. The soft ground will…

Accidental  Legend stays well and goes in the ground. He has been in good form lately and must have a great each-way chance.

President Scottie is an improving type of horse. He was left well clear when his main rival fell at the last at Ayr when the outcome hadn't been decided, but he was staying on well. He will enjoy going up to three miles and won't mind the ground. Hopeful.

We've brought Trac back to 2m - he didn't stay 2m4f last time.  You need to stay well even to get the minimum trip at Newcastle, especially in this ground and Trac won't mind it. He's in good form at home and won't be far away.

Kamsinas finished in the middle in the Betfair Trophy at Newbury last time. Twice a winner earlier this season, he has to concede weight all round and is untried so far at 2m5f. Hoping rather than expecting.

Slipway returned after his 2022 summer break and won the Southern National at Fontwell, adding to earlier long-distance victories over fences and we had high hopes for him.  He hasn't shown anything like that form since though, but at this level, he could be dangerous even under top-weight.

Ballylinch ran quite well last time at Market Rasen after his midwinter break. I thought he could win again this season and the only doubt about today is the sharp track but he handles MR and Sedgefield so hopefully, wih Hughsie in the saddle, he can go very close.

The Jukebox Man has done nothing wrong this year. We're aware it's going to be tough but we'll try to get him into a good rhythm and see where we are. He deserves his place in the race and this step up in trip will suit him.

Night On Earth has been running consistently, usually in the money after fast starts. It might be a little difficult from out there in eight at Chelmsford, but he has the early speed to get to the front before the bend and we'll see how he goes from there.

Shakem Up'Arry ran well in this race last year and I think he's been in better form this time around. The ground will be in his favour and he'll take a bit of stopping in a race that will suit him down to the ground (no pun intended!).
